Axis Mundi Song

I finally let myself move into the sun,
a glass arrayed with infinity,
beckoning to these arms,
my mind on fire, and
the golden flute of my full-throated passion
cracking open my earthen heart to

the fiery mist of the shining seat,
intangible but still there,
still not
just a dream to wake up from,
cold and sweaty with disillusionment;
no, but hot, beyond red or orange,
blue, black, smoke--there is
nothing but the searing clarity of

this moment,
already with her back to me,
silently calling sweet good-byes,

my life,
an eternal ebb of farewells and greetings,
each passing by on fleet feet, their echo undeniable
to the musing ear, a change complete from one
metamorphosed step to the next.

I gave up believing in destinations
long ago.
There is only the hollow drum of my heart
that marks those moments passed,
knowing, all things must fall down to
meet themselves again before
the
joyful outburst of the consummated
axis mundi song.

Author's Note: The "axis mundi" is the place in many mythologies where the earth and sky, female and male, soul and person, etc meet and meld into one union. Interestingly, it also represents the center of the world, as if this union is the center around which everything else spans out from.

Also, don't forget to read just the italics.
