I did see them almost as cattle, herded, conditioned, limited, exploited. It begs the question of who exactly is running the show, but that's perhaps for another time.

The point about isolation: one could take as a moral of this tale that without such enforced limitations (or even with), people will seek each other out, to interact in a "real" way. But we do see more and more interaction in the present that is not face-to-face, but rather over some sort of "IT". As long as the balance is preserved, I think we'll be fine as a race.
