This is very well written Al, I mean the only mistake that I saw was:

"He had a long wispy mustache" - moustache

Apart from that it's solid writing that flows well, easy to read. Top marks there. I'm not sure about Wiley's diction for a 10 year old, seemed a little beyond his years (or is that what is special about this character?), and some bits did make me smile. I can't say I found a lot of it funny, but again I thought it was superbly written. You gave us sufficiently detailed character introductions and the beginnings of a story.

I did enjoy the bit about the black ice, that was funny.
