The Answer

Sound check- Pop and rumble of Microphone adjusting; a loud electronic buzz, cut short by the flick of a pickup selector switch; cat calling, Saxophone warms up; Double Bass thumps, then lights up; Drums does a rimshot, a heads up for Guitar, who is still tuning up; holding his tongue, Harmonica gives the thumbs up; a gambler at heart, and with Double Bass hot on his heals, Piano opens up, taking a chance-

Verse- A smooth intro, with Double Bass dead on time-

If you're havin' trouble, Baby,
your man won't treat you right,
he won't bring home the bacon
and your dog won't bark or bite,

Chorus- Calling attention to himself, Saxophone struts-

I'm over here,
yeah, I'm over here,
I'm the answer to your problems,
yes I am, I'm over here.

Verse- sensing trouble, Harmonica admonishes-

Roaches in the kitchen,
spiders in the hall,
'skeeters in the outhouse
and rats behind the wall,

Chorus- Guitar makes his play, jumping in ahead of Saxophone-

I'm over here,
yeah, I'm over here,
I'm a solution to your worries,
yes I am, I'm over here

Bridge- Harmonica redirects, attempting to keep the peace-

Well, if you need one
I'm your man,
'cause I would give you
all I can,
and I would love you
if you'd love me too.
Baby, let me show you what I can do, yeah, yeah!

Solos- Proud Saxophone steps up to greet, talking trash; not to be outdone, and fully in tune, Guitar hurries over to protest; Harmonica, tired of hearing it between these two, slides in to scold; in a smoky halo and a world of his own, Bass minds his own business; agreeing, Piano follows suit -

Verse- Harmonica nods last call toward Piano-

If you wanna' make some changes,
things are gittin' outta' hand,
and you're lookin' for the answer,
then baby here I am,

Chorus- Knowing what's coming, Harmonica tells Sax and Guitar to take it outside-

I'm over here,
yeah baby, over here,
I'm the answer to your problems,
baby look around, I'm over here.

Fade- Still bickering, Guitar and Sax head toward the door, with Harmonica ushering them out; Piano takes the lead and solos to finish.
