i can answer 2 questions.

1) The main character hates his job. he's just a dick, but since its in his point of view this is lessened.

example: Johnny is an asshole.He kicked the shit outta me.
I kicked the shit outta the kid cuz he was pressuring me into it.
two different point of view.

second, if he's in an operation as big as this, the military is involved. since he's working in a military operation, he becomes a Major. You dont have to ever fight to be in the military; you just need to work to "protect."

BTW, this is an OLD story i wrote. I was effected by sleep, and i thought this was interesting. rereading it, ehh, not so much.

I do think it was interesting how he ignored life so much that it ended up killing him (yes, the implication is that he dies. no offence, but i cant tell the future.
