This is important when considering abortion because, and I know you will all hate this, attachment to human life (or the idea of human life) is an irrational one. That is not to say that someone is stupid for valuing another life, or that the attachment to it is not real. What is meant is that the attachment itself, the feeling of love or identity or connection, is not one that is established by reason.
Really? My attachment to my pet rock is as equally (in)valid as my attachment to my wife? Reason has NOTHING to do with it?

To allude to someone you probably loathe, would you just as happily sleep on a bed of nails as on a BeautyRest? No rational reason to distinguish between them?

Re: A Corrupt Society

With all due respect. When it comes to the United States, there is no need to debate. It is clearly the most corrupt nation on earth, and it causes the most harm to the world. Statistics alone can verify this, and you don't need to be a rocket scientist. Any idiot knows this. But enough of my rantings.

Heres the end of the debate. I do not think by any remote stretch of the imagination that you can compete with Noam. He is a professor of linguistics at MIT.

Copy and paste into google video:

Prof Noam Chomsky

End of debate.

Re: A Corrupt Society

And what Noam says is related to a global influence. The global wickedness of the United States, but if you take it to an individualistic level, the corruption is much more evident and intense.

To say the media is propangandistic is an extreme euphimism I suspect you are all American and that is why you are debating something so extremely obvious. I suspect the reason you debate this is because of the insular nature of your lives. Most of you are probably mono-linguistic and likely have little reference to the outside world other than what you see on TV. I am by no means condeming you for this.

But if you are a fish in a fish bowl, then you can hardly speak of the world outside. And the American media helps to keep you as stupfied as is humanly possible.

All major entities in the United States i.e. the health care industry, the media, and the military industrial complex, work in tandem.

Thus, in order to make the American moron even more apathetic about the violence in the world, they create generation after generation of gratuitous violence in the media so as to de-sensitize the public to the horrors commited in the name of freedom and democracy.

Constantly, we hear of atrocious crimes such as the recent case of a 19 year old male murdering a nanny that responded to an ad on craigslist.

And the media people who are themselves diseased work very hard to manipulate this media in racist ways as well, always diminishing culpability based on race so that the racial discriminatory nature of the societal structures remain firmly in place.

It's crime layered upon crime. And all of this works against the society. The very people the society seeks to assure of dominance themselves are victims as well.

Because they believe ( the so-called whites) that the are entitled and that they are white, they then adhere more closely to the propanda and stupification that the media perpetuates.

Thus you see these morons everywhere seeking to become like the characters they see in the media.

So it is no coincidence that the corruption of the person is so pervasive and particularly offensive.

It is a nation of violence prone, narcoleptic imbeciles who in their ignorance allow and legitimize the status quo.

Give them bread and circus.

Re: A Corrupt Society

When the Movie, " A Clockwork Orange" came out, there were supposedly a number of people influenced by it, even to the point of murder. Apparently it isnt just the young people of the United States that is influenced by the media to commit acts of violence. I feel this is a universal problem, that some sick minds are easily influenced by brutality. Hence the Nazi youth of Hitlers time. I think it is more obvious in the United States because of the wealth of the film industry, and the influence that it has on the world in general. Unfortunately there is more attention to what is happening in the united states. The same violence is everywhere. I feel the WORLD has gone mad.

Re: A Corrupt Society

A lot of the points that all of you made are very thought provoking. Although I do believe that society is corrupted, I also believe that it will not change. (Metaphor Time! Society is a stampeding bull with no intent of changing direction, unless stopped by all the ranchers in town.)

If society is to be changed, it must be a group effort of nations. I think that if not changed at least slightly, society will eventually crush itself.

Abortion is a very touchy subject, yet I do believe that teh life of the mother is more important than the life of an unborn child. It is a cruel practice, but it is sometimes necessary.

I do not believe that the human race will ever die out, except by some large natural (or unnatural) disaster.

P.S. I am suprised you did not mention cloning.
