Nerdy little Neddy,
The sad bullfrog,
Lived quite alone,
In a very small bog.

Sitting quietly,
On a green lily pad.
He thoughtfully wondered;
Why he was so sad.

“Maybe I’m lonely?”
He thought aloud.
But when he was young,
He had hated large crowds.

Perched on his pad,
He watched the day end.
“Another day gone.”
He said without a grin.

When rounding a bend,
What did he see?
But a small little bullfrog,
Watching a bumble bee.

“Hello there!” He yelled!
His heart leaping with delight.
But her answer was: Slurp-slap,
And the bee was gone from sight.

With her mouth full of bee,
She couldn’t politely talk.
So Neddy leapt from his pad,
And swam over to a rock.

“Hello,” she said,
When her mouth wasn’t full.
“So nice to meet you,” he said,
Hoping not to sound like a fool.

“I haven’t seen you before.
Do you live around here?”
“Well I just moved in,
When my tail fell off my rear.”

“Welcome to the neighborhood!”
“Oh thank you so much.”
“How was the metamorphosis”
“Fun, and exciting as such.”

And from that day on,
The two were friends.
They lived happily ever after.

Haha...man, I rather enjoyed this. Gets better on each read and no doubt kids would get a kick out of it. Great flow, and a real fun one to read. Nice going.

Thanks, I wrote this because you said a while back that I should try my hand at a children's poem. So... here it is.

Ah..me was it? Well I thought this was bloody awesome. you've got the flow down pat, and the storyline that appeals to little kids. I'm gunna try this out on few kids and see how it goes down with the relevant audience.

Most excellent. I don't read much from the poetry submissions, but this one caught my eye because with a name like "Jeremy" the "Jeremiah was a bullfrog" comments were an inevitable part of my childhood. To this day I have a soft spot for the bullfrog, probably because the friends I still have from those days continue to call me that. It's better than "germ".

Anyway, I agree whole-heartedly. The pace was perfect and the rhymes never felt forced, which is often my greatest issue with the rhyming poems I do read. One question though, aside from the alliteration, why is Neddy "nerdy"? He seems more "lonely" to me....but I wouldn't change it

Thanks jerH. The reason he is lonely is BECAUSE he is nerdy. Nobody wants to hang out with a nerdy bullfrog. His croak is all high and shaky. I mean he would always finish last in leap frog, because he couldn't jump as many frogs at the others.

Yes unfortunately. However, when it comes to math and frogger rhythms, he is the Man... I mean Frog!
