Dennis's mind was not nice,
It bred crimes, evil and vice,
It taught him to scare his Mother,
Trip his father, fool his brother,

It cooked up plans to spoil meals,
He swapped steak for slimy eels,
He put spiders up his Mum's dress,
No wicked thought did he suppress,

His parents tether was at an end,
His thoughts, they must amend,
Calling the physician, Dr. Clark,
For him, it was a walk in the park,

Dennis's head was swathed in wire,
But indeed, the need was dire,
It was deserved, you must agree,
A few shocking volts of ECT,

Electric shock treatment was the go,
His body writhed too and fro,
His temples truly throbbed,
How his Adams apple bobbed!

Steam erupted from his ears,
How he shook! But m'dears,
Do not fear, do not cry,
All was well, bye and bye,

Never again was he naughty,
His thoughts, no longer faulty,
Were always happy, clean and good,
As minds of children's always should,

If a stray thought did get in,
It did not result in a hateful sin,
A slight shock would hit his brain,
So from such thoughts he did refrain,

So little ones I hope you know,
Wrongful thoughts, do not sow,
Keep your mind clean, I decree,
So you don't need psychotherapy,

Ah... thank the gods they didn't put me in schock therapy, I just got anger management! But the thrill of reading this was great, how I laughed when I thought of what happened, especially thinking of the horrified faces of the young children of whom the narrarator um... narrarates to.

I have always questioned the methods to treat mental illnesses but electrical shock therapy is the most extreme. The words were agreeable, striking in a delightful way. The poem was not really intended to be read by children was it?

No, not really. Perhaps older children. I don't know if I would ever read them to mine even though I got read similar ones growing up. I guess I mainly write them because I enjoy it, get a kick out of it I suppose.
