Little Peppy

As a child I'd watch the view through my window. I felt comfort in seeing the falling snow, tiny falling angels from the uninviting and dead sky. I knew it was cold but I can't remember feeling how coldness was supposed to be felt. A mist formed in my view and I'd draw a stick figure on it before rubbing it away completely.

I saw my dog. I loved his yellow fur; I thought he was the most beautiful dog in the world. I watched him as he played in the snow, hopping in and out. I wished throughout my years that I should have been playing with him, other than watching him.

When my sister told me about him, she told me he was taken away. I never believed her; I knew she was lying to me because of the hollowness in me and the strange new coldness in my heart.

My dog walked toward the road. He stood there for a while but I knew he wanted to leave. I banged my hands against the window and began to cry. He looked around for the sound but he didn't see me at the window. I banged again but he walked away. I knew that if he went I'd never see him again, and I was right.

Hey, this was heart wrenching. this was easy to relate to. we had to put my golden retriever down on my birthday last year becuase she had cancer. the one suggestion i would make is that instead of

i would try "i wished throughout my years that i'd been playing with him instead of watching him" or something along those lines.

i'd really like to see you expand this, it could be great!

good job!

Re: Little Peppy

This is poignant and sad. You've managed to convey an entire situation in just a few short paragraphs.

This is an interesting line:

Quote:
I felt comfort in seeing in seeing the fallen snow, tiny falling angels from the uninviting and dead sky.
It starts out pleasant (I especially like the image of snowflakes being tiny falling angels), but then it ends up with the coldness of "the uninviting and dead sky". A quick switch right in one sentence. (Oh, and you have a double "in seeing".)

When I first read it, I almost thought the last two paragraphs were reversed (time-wise). But I can see how it would work either way.

Nice little piece!

(Non-fiction? Autobiographical? )

Re: Little Peppy

Yeah agreed with pretty much everything the other 2 comments referred to, how unoriginal of me, lol

but a couple of things:
Quote:
I wished throughout my years that I should have been playing with him, other than watching him.
should this be 'rather'?
Quote:
I never believe her;
and should this be a past tense 'believed' to fit with the rest?

nitpicking aside, its so simple yet so sad, with no hanging about. like it pep.

They're nice. They can be flea biten and I can still like them. Dogs are awesome, and they're so sad when they're gone.
