Hmm, this is a interesting, yet confusing story.
Honestly I don't know what to make of it.
On one hand it appears that his man is sitting on a beach from his childhood, but everything has changed. Everything he loved about it is gone or different.
On the other hand, he seems to be making up some or all of it in his head, like Natalie. So I'm not sure how much of this story is fabrication of his imagination and how much is truth.
The writing is solid. I few blimps where the wording was a bit rough.

This is a fragment as is. There is no subject. Maybe put in a "They" at the beginning and change the verbs as needed.
I think if you comb through once more you'll find a few spots, nothing major.
As for the story on a whole, I don't know what to make of it. It seems like this a romance with an imaginary person... It doesn't leave me with a bad feeling, but I really don't know what to make of it.
Good writing, maybe this is just over my ability to understand.
