A Snowboard Christmas - Chapter 5

Whitney ran up the stairs to her bedroom, hair dripping and towel wrapped tightly around her. She had needed to switch loads in the dryer on the ground level and now needed to blow-dry her hair and get dressed in the master bedroom on the second floor. As much as she loved the house, it made getting ready on a time crunch difficult.

She crossed her bedroom and began to blow-dry her hair in the bathroom when something in the mirror caught her eye. Her clothes were flying out of her closet, apparently on their own.

"Kyle?" Whit pulled the towel tighter around her chest. Kyle was on his way home from the grocery store; how had he managed to beat her upstairs to the bedroom? Slowly, Whit approached the open door and found Kara half buried under a pile of clothes.

"Hi, sis," she waved, continuing to root through Whit's closet.

"Hi, erm, what are you doing?"

"Stealing your clothes. More particular, a skirt. I left my good one at the dorm."

"Um, okay," Whit said awkwardly. "Why do you need a skirt?"

"Mass."

"You're going?"

"Shh, let's not make that public."

"Aren't you in hiding or something, shunning contact from the outside world and such?"

"Correction," Kara said standing up. Apparently she found what she had been looking for. Violently she kicked the discarded articles of clothing back into the closet. "I'm only hiding from certain people."

"Such as?"

"Mom, Dad, and several others."

"What?" Whit exclaimed.

"Shh!" Kara hushed her sister. "These walls have ears, you know."

"You're hiding from our parents on Christmas?"

"Nonsense, I'm not hiding. I'm in Europe, remember?"

"Oh, that explains why you're stealing my skirt vice buying your own at a Versace in Florence." Whit rolled her eyes sarcastically.

"I knew you'd catch on eventually."

"Remind me, again, why I'm harboring you in my house?"

"It's still my house 'til graduation?"

"Never mind. Don't remind me," Whit set back into the bathroom. "So how exactly do you plan to avoid your own parents at the church you grew up in during Christmas Mass?"

"Key phrase, 'I grew up in'. I know that building inside and out, and after the dry ice fiasco at your wedding, I'm also rather familiar with the ventilation ducts."

"You're kidding."

"Do I ever?"

"Sadly, no." Whit shook her head. "Take the shoes on the bottom left in the closet. The sequins match the hem."

"Are you serious?" Kara asked lightening up.

"If I'm going to stow away my fugitive sister, she might as well look good when she's caught." Whit reached for a tooth brush.

"Thanks." Kara headed towards the door; then almost nervously she spoke, "But what makes you consider me a fugitive?"

"You are yet to tell me why you are back from Europe. I'd like to imagine that it's because you attempted to rob the Louvre or assassinate the Prime Minister of Lichtenstein or something," Whit explained, the tooth brush still in her mouth. "I'd like to hope it wasn't because you were caught selling yourself on the street of Amsterdam after getting tanked with a group of classmates in an underground pub."

"Theft, murder, prostitution. Either way, INTERPOL isn't too fond of any of them," Kara laughed.

"Scratch that." Whit turned the hair dryer on. "I'd even be proud of you for being a prostitute in the Netherlands."

Re: A Snowboard Christmas - Chapter 5

egh, PROUD of a prostitute? no.
But it DOES add more to charater personality, which, for the 100000 time, is my favourite thing about this "series". ^_^
