The Tale of Difference

Synopsis: It starts off with the main character finding out that she was created, and so went to seek out a purpose for herself. Eventually she finds out that her creators are trying to replicate someone with failing results. So she meets up with the person they are trying to clone and they have a talk about destiny.

Part 1:

If I am only a tool, a tool with no purpose but to be used, then I shall become rusted, and break with heavy use,
And then I shall be discarded, thrown among my other sisters. And when I have been left there, left there to perish, I shall but only be a reflection amongst the countless mirrors. And in this world of seeing myself, and myself seeing me, I will die soulless and with no purpose.

Part 2:

When My Sisters have seen their mirror, which is me, and I see my twisted reflection, which is them, I come to realise: I am not the first.

There were others before me, others that were promised great things and were thrown like trash into this dumping ground.

They all greet me, their name the same as mine. I stay silent, and shy away. What has become of me? What was my purpose? Is it to scream in endless silence with My Sisters, or to seek out my path?

With that, I stand at the edge of the ground. I let my creators fear my wrath one last time before I strike.

Part 3:

With a pained look I stare out at My Sisters for the last time. They were probably left in the Dumping Grounds for too long, their minds rotted away with certain madness. Just the cold look in their eyes is enough. My patchy memory tells me that eyes like that belong only to one type of person: a headless man.

I break my eyes away and stare at the concrete, it cold surface could not match the soulless eyes in the pits behind me.

I stare with hatred that is greater than any man, and I shatter the wall with a power that I didn't know I had.

I walked out, into a cold-iron tunnel. It was silent, save for the wind of air blowing in. There were no sounds of alarm, no sounds, not even those of men marching to take my life, when suddenly I hear it. It was faint, only I could hear from such a distance.

I followed the sound. Giant hammers beating away endlessly. I followed it along the lifeless tunnels.

With my new found purpose, I seek out my destiny.

Part 4:
The Hammers. The sound of metal slowly beating metal. It took my soul and it told it where to go.

Suddenly the sounds of feet marching drown The Hammers. Finally, they had come to snuff out my life.

Rows upon rows of men, armed with high-powered rifles aim at me, like I was a dangerous animal. I laugh out at there foolishness, and then stare at them, hatred once more filling me. Their bullets did not fire, their guns were jammed. I was set loose on the world, to seek out my destiny.

Calmly, I walked past them. They were only doing their job, and had no vendetta against me.

The Hammers led me to an elevator. I walk into it, pressing the button that led me towards them. Up, up it went.

Part 5:

The doors open, they show me what seems to be a lab. I see vats lining the walls. Vats that lie closed and covered so that their contents may not be seen. I look around for anyone, there is no one. I walk to the first vat. It has a console and a label. Slowly I read out the label to myself.

"Subject C455774," it says. So these were experiments. All this time, I knew but didn't believe it. Now I do.

I see a button, one that catches my eye. Microphone, it reads. With a shaky hand I press it. I speak into it:

"Who are you?" I say.

A small voice replies.

"I'm Freya," she replies. Her voice was my own. My voice was her's. We had the same voice.

"Hello, Freya. Did you know that my name was also Freya?" I said.

"Oh, hi Freya. I didn't know that we had the same name. Am I going to be see the world today?"

"The world?" I say in mild surprise.

"Yes, daddy promised me that soon he would show me the world. He would tell me about it, and how beautiful the sky is. I'm looking forward to it," the girl replied in a joyful voice.

I felt sickened. How could they lie to this girl like that? How could they lie to all of them like that?

"I'm sure he'll set you free, soon I'm sure," I said in a pained voice, releasing the button.

I pressed another button and the sounds of machines echoed. The metal casing around the vat opened, and I saw the girl. She looked exactly like me. The same eyes, the same hair. I stared down at my clothes and feel ashamed as I see the lack of the girl has. She looks at my with eyes, still filled with life and hope. I then notice the defect that will one day be her undoing. Two perfect horns grew out from her hair, and bent backwards elegantly. I also notice her skin turning black from the light. She was just another clone. Another defect. I close the vat. I turned and walked to the other side of the room.
They would pay for creating an empty shell, filling it with hopes, and then destroying them all.

As I reach closer to the door, something draws my eye. I turn and see another Sister. She looked up at me, her eyes still with life in them. I also notice the clothes she is wearing. And then, above all, I notice the fact that she is perfect.

Part 6:

I stare at her with shocked eyes. She was the First. I walk up to her, she looked at my with depressed eyes.

"Is your name Freya?" I ask.

"Yes," she said, averting her eyes.

"My name is also Freya,"

"I know that. Just leave me alone."

I sat down next to her.

"Don't worry, I know what it must be like. I have little memory of my past. Tell me, what is your destiny?"

"I don't care."

"Tell me, I won't mind no matter what it is," I said, being as sympathetic as possible.

We talked, it was long. I told her of how she was the first. The reasonwe were made to try to replicate. She listened and I could feel that her heart grew enlightened. She had found purpose in life once more. I stood up.

"Now it's time for me to find my own destiny. Go, young Freya, seek out your true purpose. Free my other Sisters with the gift of death."

I left without another word.

Minutes later, I found The Hammers: Giant pistons lifting and beating against large pads of metal, to keep the facility free from underground diggers. It lifted 100ft above my head, and plummeted with a deafening bang.

I watched it for hours on end. That sound filled my soul.

I watched it rise for the last time, and at its peak, I jumped. I jumped with it, so that I could fill my soul with what it wanted.

That sickening crunch as it hit metal was the last and most beautiful memory I ever had.

Re: The Tale of Difference

Is this a story outline? It seems like it could be a good story but it just seems to lack substance.

Re: The Tale of Difference

Seems more suitable for the poetry section than fiction. It's pretty hard work to follow, but original (which has GOT to be half the battle ).

Well, whenever I decide to write a story, I ensure that it stays original to the pont that no one can see that i copied stuff from elsewhere. (he he he)
