Lone Abandonment
I stand alone without release,
Weary in solace and wandering solitude.
They let go of their coupled hands,
Every few steps of the way
And take a long look at each other.
They wonder who she is in the middle,
I step back and see myself from a way in the distance,
Long rains and prickly nights,
Turmoil tosses and throws the sheets,
I run to catch up but,
They have left me far behind.
Sweating and breathing hard,
They don’t hear me call,
They don’t want me at all,
Whilst alone, I had their companionship,
Now all alone, there is only me.
I stand back from myself,
See a slave dwindling in shadow,
Yet the sun is strong,
The shadow wanders off somewhere in the distance,
Seeking cold comforts and cool nights,
Of crisp, white sheets and laughter,
I run to catch up but,
She has disowned me,
Left me lost and naked,
Whilst attached, I felt clothed – one.
Now vulnerable and cold,
I long for the long rains and prickly nights,
I run and keep running,
And somehow, I find myself home.
Breathless, I sigh a relief,
Sweating, I find myself here,
Despite the drips of uncertainty
That run and keeps running.
I find myself again to be,
All alone.
