[Venomous Vixen]

When did things get so off course?
A cracked road, a jagged line
defined by what we used to despise,
lies laid out before life’s curves
once alibis, now roadblocks
lost in the infinite expansion,
where dimension
Just shifted the final gear

Another year, another lesson
of broken hearted regression -
Obsession, accelerating numb
while thumbing the still frames
of what was once – now lost,
tossed through a dusty window
like a still burning cigarette butt,
years smoked away on those curves

Fading into the final lap,
a gap between happiness
and this fleeting reality,
just me and the cracked road
alone, so far from where I began,
spanned a lifetime

Off course – no remorse
in this one way race
to any place but here,
any place but what I’ve become
numb, jagged -
dimensional in my baggage

Overrun, the timing belt’s slipping,
whipping away at my dreams,
tearing the seams of growth,
regression into the womb -
A tomb of memory

So safe, so lost,
the cost of this ride,
the ride of life.

Hmmm. I've been on a hiatus from reading poetry? I must admit, I've forgtotten how amzing it is to read, especially yours. I've been listening to a lot fo music lately and I forgot how on par poetry can be with evoking emotion. This was exquisite and intriguing on so many levels. The metaphor of a car trip - or a "ride through life" was amazing...and the little details you peppered it with, the road's curves, the seatbelt, the road, the ciggarette butt. It painted a really vivod, moving picture in my head. Skillful. Fantastically written.

Ah - finally got to it!

Ouch! Emotional and incredible. Your usual wonderful techniques at work here, with the imagery and metaphors, and some clever internal rhymes. What clinches it for me though is the emotion - like you told me once, that's what it's really all about. I can almost hear a catch of sorrow in your voice here, and an edge of rage there, and some bewilderment, too. Just damned fine, hun.
