Scorching gravel underfoot,
The airs a smoking haze,
I can taste you in the ash,
A thousand different ways,

The sun bears down on me,
I'm thirsting for a glimpse,
No silhouette do I see,
Upon the flecked horizon,

It echoes your lost laugh,
Hidden cleft of your smile,
Standing on an endless road,

For me, this brings to mind a lonely stretch of desert highway, an accident or death scene recalled from memory, a place you have returned to, as I once did. Very moving, btw. Fantastic.

beautiful, I can just imagine myself back in senegal west africa where I grew up sitting there in the sand one one of those terribly hot days recounting something similar. Great job, but then you had me when you mentioned 'A black murder of birds'

When I saw this was your work Corneac (Well actually I am snooping through all your work) I allready knew it would be good, I like this poem because of a reason that was allready stated, it made it posible to 'feel' what was going on in this poem...And even though this is the exact opisite of what I normaly write (romance against heartbreak) it was extremely enjoyable

Ouch, very sad... and very good. I can see why this one was a POTM. "flecked horizon", I absolutely loved that bit... I could see it, fragmented and lonely, perfect image... in fact that stanza was my favorite one, just jam packed with some great stuff. You know, you really have nothing to be blushy about, your old work is still fantastic.
