like stagnant ego switch my motor-control
to shift gear, and my heart-beat sprinting to catch up,
run, run, run, my breathing stammered as if embarrassed,
sweat, like sunlight, gleams from my hands,

the number, quickening, quickening,
like the layers of guilt overlapping
a tide and a shore,
nature, no longer natural
but so-called-civilized,

the phone hangs heavy,
like ringing, dangling your presence in front of my eyes,
“Hello?” – breathy, mildly amused or mildly irritated
the nervous twitch of your breath,
the insistence in the question, as if you want to know
Who I am

It's edgy, which your stuff often is, but smooth at the same time. I know, that sounds like a contradiction, but it's not. It's urgent, but it flows.

This is what I mean - elegant stuff here. Your narrator seems to be running totally on stimulus/response reactions, and then at the end he exhales a deeply held breath - "Whew! It's you. I'm safe."
