Self-Healing Doesn't Exist
Like blood rushing to the wound,
so compassion cleanses the infection
in the heart,
opening the mirror of the mind to
life's teachers
stripping away the linen masks
of self pity
air stings the surface
but everything else sighs "ah".
"Don't believe for a moment
that you are healing yourself." *
As the entire body commits to save
even the tiniest part,
so the whole cosmos rushes to help us
even without our limited notice.
So runs the silent rivers of love
through our veins,
setting the undercurrents of change
into motion before the first
stab pierces
the senses of our every day.
*quote from Rumi's poem "Childhood Friends" as translated by Coleman Banks.
