What remnants and remains of the past
do we sweep away with the finest hair’s breath
of matted and cloying gloom and disenchantment.
Rougher debris clings to glib bristles
that coaxes before ushering them away into the stark.

I tag along; I too am a discarded afterthought
to be shepherded, before time turns us to dust and fodder for
unwelcome intruders - gnawed at. A paralleled heart
in broken pieces, I lay there on the floor hoping
to be picked up with a realisation that something precious
was accidentally dropped from the table of a life,
but more likely I am to be swept into and found in the corners
of closed minds, dark and angular and precise.
Later when consciences call, I will be sought, eked out
and caught again, swept up with tomorrow’s fare.

Should life see me again, before I deteriorate into so humble
a crumb, I will make sure to be sour, but remain on one's tongue
and pucker the lips of the swallower thus leaving him wanting more...

While learning to never be so careless as to discard me onto the floor.

Very nice. Kind of heartbreaking, though. The idea that somebody could be a discarded crumb is rather sobering, but unfortunately all too true. Poignant and well-done.
