Say You
‘Say to me,’ says the melody
Cry to me on my lips
Tell me a tune on a rainy afternoon
Play it for me as I sit
Swaying in time to the finality
Singing in case I should scream
The lullaby turns to a fretful discern
As its harmony wavers and slips
I can play back my songs, and maybe
Hear a distant harmony
Cling to the base as I wonder the pace
And why some songs play themselves out
My heart beats in time but rhythmically
It strays from the voice that it hears
A love song is born – when the time is to mourn
As your tears cry again through me
