From here I can see the ants and seething, envious stare
Wandering in the clouds but watching from way down there
Would you like to soar and savour sweet, hot airs?
Then we can fly.
Gases fill and make curvaceous our swelled, crowned plume
Weighty ballast temporarily hinders our tethered run from gloom
Our eyes of conscience fill the green field of doom
We sever the ropes
Intoxicated, weightless smiles float aloft, aiming for heaven's might
One by one we cut all ties and make lighter our hearts and fight
Miniscule become the haunts and are sped past, by the ghosts of our night
As we drop more goodbyes

Ah, Lu. Just so nice. Your incredible word choices and wonderful imagery, all those things are expected of you, and you never disappoint. Excellent job. Supposedly flying in a hot air balloon is a real rush. I'll never know; I get nosebleed on a stepladder!

Okay, this has just made the "Top 5 for Lu List". I'm not sure where it falls in the top five, but it's there.
We have a couple of locals that own hot air balloons, and they fly them about every other day, from Spring to Fall. I used to go out to the country to watch them practice take-off and landing procedures with noobs in the fall, when the crops had been harvested and the fields were bare.
I've never done it before, but I keep telling myself I will. Your poem has got my heart racing with the excitement that must surely belong to those who have crossed the line between doers and my ilk.
If I were Rena, I'd say, "You have my highest rating of 5/5."
