The leaves are glowing with the last flames of autumn,
The sky's as blue as your eyes.
The days are shorter and a hard frost is comin,'
And I'm afraid to ask you why.

Across the lake I hear the wild geese callin.'
They're gettin' ready to fly.
The harvest moon will shine on leaves that have fallen,
That's when you'll tell me goodbye.

CHORUS

Indian Summer just an echo of August,
The air is cool just like the love we once knew.
Indian Summer, now October's upon us,
Don't know how I'm gonna live - without you.

The cricket's song is gettin' sadder and slower,
He'll be gone before the snow.
The stars are brighter and the wind's blowin' colder,
I don't know why you have to go.

Once upon a springtime we both made a promise,
We'd stay forever and a day.
But time and changes have put distance between us,
You've got to go your own way.

CHORUS

Indian Summer just an echo of August,
The air is cool just like the love we once knew.
Indian Summer, now October's upon us,
Don't know how I'm gonna live - without you.

The sky is gray and I see snow clouds a-flyin,'
Ice crystals form in the air.
The dark night's comin' and I know I'll be tryin,'
To tell myself that you still care.

Maybe when the snow melts in the spring you'll remember,
The love that we used to know.
You'll see the feelings that I have are still tender,
And that I still need you so.

CHORUS (2X)

Indian Summer just an echo of August,
The air is cool just like the love we once knew.
Indian Summer, now October's upon us,
Don't know how I'm gonna live - without you.

Indian Summer just an echo of August,
The air is cool just like the love we once knew.
Indian Summer, now October's upon us,
Don't know how I'm gonna live - without you.

[ATTACHED] Live performance of this song that I played at a coffeehouse. Just me singing and playing acoustic guitar.

Re: Indian Summer

Perhaps my favorite set of lyrics yet from you, these are just beautiful. There is a tone to the entire piece I love, something about hanging on to the past as the inevitable runs course, and the parallel of that to the season's... hoping when spring rolls back around maybe love will too. Brilliant, I just love it!

Re: Indian Summer

Thank you, hun. That's the frame of mind I was in at the time. This was one of those "explosions." I bought a jug of "Indian Summer" brand apple cider at the grocery store, and it was like I was channeling the song. It took fifteen minutes to drive home, and I had it written by then. I love those kind! Thanks, Bri!

Re: Indian Summer

Lovely lyrics, Rick. Agree with Bri about the tone. The mood was captured perfectly. You started on a beautiful note and carried the same throughout. To the best of my knowledge (which is currently non existent where lyrics are concerned) this one does not have a single weak moment. The words you have used are lovely and have successfully conveyed great thoughts. Looking at it as just a poem, it's beautiful. Now compose some music and start uploading the files! I'm dying to hear all these.

Re: Indian Summer

Thanks, Nup and Lu. This is one of my personal faves. I'm going to try to upload an MP3 of a live version of "Driftwood" tonight. I have a live version of this song, "Indian Summer," that I need to get digitized into a wav file, then I'll try to upload it. It's bare bones; just me singing and playing an acoustic guitar at a coffeehouse.

Re: Indian Summer

This is friggin awesome Rick. I read these before - and they just blew me away...serious, outstading. You descriptions gave me goosebumps, and if it this isn't poetry (yes I knwo they're in the lyrisc section), but I don't know what is. Seriosu, outstanding. I can't even point out a favourite bit, there just all great. I loved your descriotiptions - apt, peotic, heartbroken and the them of seasons carried semalesly throug. Almost whimsical in parts. Fantastic mate.

Re: Mp3 Soundfile Of Vorcla's "indian Summer"

That was beutiful, man. I liked the rawness of the sound in it. It would probably sound different if it were studio record(I sometime don't like that).

The lyrics were fine, but the sound of it is better.

I second that. Love the beat and the lyrics, Rick. Congratulations Grog.

Grog make music! Dude, you really weren't kidding around, that's great! Beat is awesome, lyrics are good, and the whole thing is just smooth as glass. Not as finished as a studio record would be, obviously, but then what live performance ever is? ^_^ Vocals on the whole were also great, love the quality of your voice, very smooth and mello. I raise my club to you, Grog, job well done. ^_^

Thanks, Peppy and Kara. We're actually working on a studio version of it. I may post that later. Now everyone can hear that Ohio accent (and no, Kara, I do not "warsh" my car!!

Grog thanks Tricia. Grog's cheeks am red!

Yeah, there was very little vocal processing on that, just a touch of reverb, and the guitar was run through an amp with a pickup for the audience and miked for the recording. Worked pretty well.

Glad you like it, hun. Thanks so much.

Re: Indian Summer

That was fantastic, Rick. You are one talented S.O.B. I mean that in the best way. I liked the lyrics alone, but when you put it to music, it really seals the deal. Kind of haunting melody. Plus, you've got the nads to get up in front of people and sing. I like to do that too, but they have to be drunk off their ass. No coffee shops for me, it must be a bar with many inebrieated individuals. Great job on this, it's fantastic.

Re: Indian Summer

? I don't have an accent!

Ha! Yeah, Kara mentioned that right away. Her Dad is from Ohio too, and we Ohioans have that nice, flat midwestern drawl, for lack of a better term. I'm glad you like the accent, Lu.

Glad you liked the music, too!
