As the world before me rots on fate's desk,
And the sky turns a deep ominous gray,
The lights turn, the streets seem to empty,
I close my eyes, knowing not what to say.

She raises a thin black brow... in pity?
Her hands find her hips, dark eyes study mine,
Those black lips curl in a cynical frown,
Hands clenched in fists, my presence seems malign.

Her hair undoubtly dyed that blue-black,
Gothic-lolita, like most girls bereft,
I feel my eyes roll, whatever happened?
This country wasn't like this when I left.

She opens the door, waiting for my move,
I could risk the traffic, could risk a car,
But I find myself in her glum shadow,
Following her deep into the small bar.

A coin in an amber tray, empty beers,
Two men at a booth, drinking in silence,
She beckons my name, buying me a drink,
I know how these nights end, it's common sense.

She swoons and finally falls into sleep,
I throw some tattered bills and bid adui,
To a drunken angel snoring gently,
"Sorry my dear, but I'm just passing through."

As the world before me opens its eyes,
And the sky lightens to a brand new day,
The lights fade, the streets get even more packed,
I smirk weakly, knowing not what to say.
