Flowers in my hair,
snowdrops and sweet celine,
this is a day to dance,
hands on hips caught and
feet wild in the air;
I am given this chance
like a young girl, to dream
dreams deep from the land.

A swan without care,
I dance from door to door,
a jug of milk in one hand

Written for Imbolc (gaelic) or Gwyl Ffraid (welsh), the older pagan version of Candlemass, on February 1 and 2nd. Traditionally in some places, a young woman or girl was chosen to represent the goddess Brighid (also known as "Bride" in Scotland or "Braid" in Wales), with her symbols of Spring, Inspiration, Fertility, Healing and Hope ... and went around to each house in the village or town, bringing gifts like milk or cakes, and also bringing with her a flame, which was used to ritually relight each home's main hearth. This festival represents the coming of light and hope in the new year, the cleansing, releasing and exhilarating energies of Spring.
