hmm. That made me ponder. It was deep dude.

you remain the moster of short poems. Im still... just awed on your ability to keep it simple and complex, to use as few words as possible but create vivid stories in ones head. No antagonism, youre a great poet.

That said, im wondering how you drew conclusions. do you think god would be useless, ergo... no god? or what. Not that it isn't important, im just wondering what you think

Hi Timmay, and thank you for these comments. And most kind they are too. In answer to your question, no, I do not think God is / would be useless. On the contrary, religion in general, has played a necessary psychological and practical part in human history up to and including, present times.

However, I believe there are good grounds now for arguing that humankind is, and for the very first time in recorded history, on the threshold of being able to take conscious control of its own social organisation. Religion is basically a way of changing the mind in circumstances in which man is as yet, unable to control his environment and social organisation in a conscious and planned manner. Essentially what I am arguing in this shortest of pieces then, is that if mankind ever secures conscious mastery of the natural environment along with that of his own social existence, then the need to believe in one or other deity would eventually vanish. There would be no psychological need to imagine an afterlife in paradise because we could make it a reality here on earth. Here, in the only world of which we have knowledge.

It is therefore, the growth of consciousness among masses of people as to the historical task that lies before them that is first and foremost required. Essentially this means the growth of a realisation for the need to abolish class antagonisms among and between human beings.

Hi nobodylaiceps and thanks for these kind comments. And I just might take you up on your offer of an extended poem on this particular idea.

As a word of caution, however, I don't believe that religion as an ideology (any religion is essentially an ideology, a system of ideas) is simply there to be 'brought down' as you put it, although I fully understand your feelings. As one philosopher / historian once argued, in order to rid ourselves of all this (religious) humbug, we must first struggle to transform the material world upon which such ideological humbug depends, and from which it ultimately emerged in one or other of its forms. In other words, religion cannot simply be talked out of existence if this is what you mean by to 'bring down'.

Of course, criticism of religious doctrine is a necessary process, but it is not the only, or even the most important process in humankind's efforts to rid itself of religious ideas and superstition. Instead, the material reality upon which such mystical beliefs depend must be superseded by forms of social organisation in which humans are not living in an inhumane (alien) world. A world in which the natural environment and people's social organisation, are, for the very first time in human history, scientifically understood (in a social sense), consciously planned, and all this for the good of all humans, as opposed to meeting the needs of a tiny minority of humans as is presently the case to varying degrees.

You grasp concepts so well - or perhaps it is the other way around in which you have already mastered the concepts and we are merely catching up with you. How you manage to bring forth such thought and purpose to so few words never ceases to astound me on numerous levels. What could take so many of us, a paragraph or stanza to portray, you express in a mere handful of 8-10 words. Forgive the envy which you stir in my heart, but you are truly a marvel, Colin.
