Re: Hope
It may be no suprise to you, Eadha, that I usually look at the bright side of dark poems. Let me try my hand at the opposite with yours.
Hope is certainly powerful if it can protect one from all these terrible things, but what kind of statement is this making about the rest of the world. Of course, Pandora's Box comes to mind, where we got all the ills of the world but also Hope as a kind of condolence. But is this how we have to see the world before Hope assumes all this power? Does the world have to be darkness, sorrow, mess, mire, and a storm to boot? And does the "real" world even need to occupy a different reality from Hope? By using Hope as a shield, is one creating one's own opponent? Anyway, I don't really mean much of that seriously, just an experiment. You know I loved your poem. |

Re: Hope
hehe .. no, I'm not saying that the whole world is bad or dark or desolate here . . this isn't a universal poem. In my own ego-centric way, it applies specifically to me and my life, the pain I went through . .and the fact that I was able to find things to keep me going and to help me heal . . that is what hope is for me, a very personal force, that no, doesn't shield you, but rather allows you to transcend . .. in other words, so there are clouds blocking the sun? just fly above the clouds then!

*sigh*
I'm always very jealous, When someone writes eight lines of beauty; I'm always overly zealous, And can never just let it be. Not a very useful critique, but let's just say I liked it.

Eadha, you've done it again, but in under half the amount of words! I realise this has been on here for a while but i've only just noticed it. You're an incredible poet.

Re: Hope
Haha! I have a poet that does the same as I do! The world is a blend of darkness and light, to fully understand the concept of life itself, one must understand and know that light creats a shadow, and shadows are present because a light is not far off. Thus I believe when I write, and a beautiful mix of it you've done as well! Truly great, bravo, and I wish you luck in the poems to come.

Re: Hope
A very simple poem, but far from trite or meaningless. The contrast and juxtaposition of certain things, as well as finding out good elements (song) out of a bad thing like sorrow, is handled very well. I can say sincerely that something was stirred in me from this write - which is uncommon.

Re: Hope
well, I would say it has more to do with the humanity inside your soul than my ability to write. Poems are just words on a page strung together. It is the eyes that perceive them and transcribe them on the soul that matter more.

Re: Hope
I really enjoyed this little poem.
First, it depicts hope in a positive view as hope should be positive. Also, all the examples were related in that, on the one hand, there's good, and on the other hand, there's bad. What is amazing is that all these examples linked together to form rhyme. I can't say it is entirely original as the examples are common sayings, but the concept of "The good in the bad" as a rhyming meter is cool and most importantly, it works. Good job! |
