Time
TIME As a child of seven or eight The years would pass slowly, Forever making me wait. Now, as I've grown I regret to say That time seems much faster Have I wished it away? But as a child we learn in the end That time is just time, Neither enemy nor friend. Though I'm glad to be older I wish time would stay still I don't want to age, but of couse I will. Was thinking about this in the middle of the night, got me down but after writing it I felt a lot better Last edited by Duncan; 21-02-2007 at 04:56 AM. |

Re: Time
i think that is true to all of us.
The faster we move the faster it leaves us. |

Re: Time
Yea, that is so reflective of time.
Remember trying to chase time to go faster, forever hoping I'd be older. And yet the irony is that when we're older, as we all become, we tend to be attuned to appreciate things, no more just passing a cursory glance at the ordinary flower, but examining its petals, and just basking in its beauty. It's a nice poem, even carrying along with it a rhyme, which some modern poems lack. |

Re: Time
Oh that is so true Duncan, when your little 15 minutes seems like forever but once you get older and older you realize even an hour is not much time, then a day, a month, a year. Slowly time speeds up.

Re: Time
Yeah it's a very disheartening feeling, I've noticed how quickly years are flying by me recently. Makes me realise I should make the most of every single day.

Re: Time
I think the essential thing is to enjoy life in the only world of which we have knowledge while simultaneously endeavouring as best one can, not to affect in a negative way, the quality of life of others. (if that makes any sense)

Re: Time
Makes sense, and it's certainly the way I try to live my life.

Re: Time
Very nice and quite astute. A bit of experience creeping through there.
I think one reason time seems to go faster as we get older is that we end up doing the same thing over and over again (e.g. working at a job). Our memories tend to get all smooshed together, and we lose track of the days. Also, when we're younger, we look at the "now", at the little bits by the side of the road. When we're older we tend to look down the road instead. By the time the next bend gets here, a lot of road has gone by unnoticed. So, I guess some things to try: do something new whenever you can; feel the moment; and appreciate the little things around you. The ironic thing for me is that, inside, I still feel the same as I did when I was 16. There's no magic moment or sudden shift when suddenly you're "grown up". Oh, by the way, did I say I liked what you wrote?
