A Tribute to the American Civil War


Grey lines forever stand,
By the willows on southern lands.
Johnny may come marching home,
Johnny might leave his wife alone.
Grey lines stand rigid and proud,
Let them hear the rebels shout.
Tears of Charlottes fall to dust,
With the honeysuckle and the musk.

Blue lines from cities of Ohio,
By the marshes they stop and go,
Can David see beyond his fear,
When David steps into the clear.
Blue lines stand shoulder to shoulder,
Let them cringe at all this horror.
Katherine watches from the hillside,
picnic basket spread on raw hide.


Blue and Grey in history shines,
One side came and the other dies.
How could Johnny and David survive?
No one bothers with compromise.
Now in the sun both lie in vain,
Rotting there, monuments remain.
Bugles in taps when all is done,
In a blue-grey sky of the setting sun.

I know the song 'When johny comes marching...' but that me me ask who is David, then katherine put it all in perspective and I thought, clever bugger. This was different or unusual but carried off greatly by your talent.

The end line was fitting and masterly. Very good stuff Venus.
