Why is there so much pain in the world?
Starving children, broken lives
People dying before they’re old
Bruised and beaten wives
Suppressed screams and muffled cries
Safety pins and razor blades
People who wish they could die
And scars that never fade
Divorce papers signed, a family torn apart
People driven to suicide
When nothing’s left but a broken heart
And all the tears that have been cried
School shootings, a murderous rampage
Losing a loved one
At such a young age
The victim of evil wielding a gun
Mugged in the street
Robbed and beaten
Hope it doesn’t repeat
Why does this happen?
Drunk drivers, stupid and careless
Not stopping when the light turns red
Unsuccessfully trying to miss
A car that holds a young couple, newly wed
An act of arson, a burning house
With people trapped inside
A flame too big to douse
Before the people die
Angry teens, lost and confused
They don’t fit in
So they drown their pain in booze
Or drag a blade across their skin
Child molesters perverted and sick
Causing so many fears
The children close their eyes and pray it’ll be over quick
But it continues throughout the years
So many people alone at night
Feeling unwanted and uncared for
Searching desperately for a guiding light
Or the key to open another door
All these things and more
But the world still goes on
Gallantly trying to fight this war
Until all the pain is gone
