Fox and Hare

With naked feet on sacred ground we dance to beating drums,
With arms raised high and voices loud a spiral we've become,
To draw the power from the Earth and send it out again,
To work the magic of our hearts and heal a wounded land.

For on this ground once witches burned and wise old women hung,
To wash these blood stains from the ground our magic has begun,
For 'tis not vengeance that we seek nor malice in our hand,
Only free our sisters dear to walk again the land.

Hands in the air, feet to the ground
Voices make a sacred sound
Drums and fire to fill the air
Tonight a truce 'tween Fox and Hare.

For us to heal we must forgive the damage that's been done
By those whose hearts were gripped in fear if we are to be one,
For never while upon this Earth should any walk alone
And are we all not children dear of Maiden Mother Crone?

So come Christian, Muslim Atheist and join us in our dance
And celebrate our common lives while there is still a chance
For Hate and Fear wait not their turn to crush us in their hand
And only love and tenderness can save a dying land.

Hands in the air, feet to the ground
Voices make a sacred sound
Drums and fire to fill the air
Tonight a truce 'tween Fox and Hare.

Re: Fox and Hare

hey man, welcome to the site.

Honestly, the flow and rhythm here is darn near flawless. Nicely done- I enjoyed reading it, though I'm afraid there are many dimensions of meaning that I were lost on me. I believe I understand the overall message though, and I took it as a positive one.

Very interesting form, good stuff. Keep writing!

Thank you very much! It actually came about shortly after changing my spiritual focus from a Christian one to one more pagan. I found that some of the pagan folk I was meeting were just about as intolerant of the Christians as some Christians were of them. Mind you, these folk are the exception rather than the rule on both sides of the theological line. So this was my plea to both to stop focusing on the things that make us different and celebrate the things that our two philosophies had in common. So yeah, I think it was a positive message I was going for.

This is the first time I've shared my poetry, most of which is of pagan principles, on a site that was not specifically designed for pagans. Thanks again for giving it a read and I have been made to feel very welcome here!

I really enjoyed this piece. A good command of language with fascinating imagery.

wise old women hung - you could probably remove "old" from this phrase, as it pulls away from the flow of the line and isn't *overly* necessary in my eyes.

I already said it but I will say it again, I just loved this. Whatever I marked in red, are suggestions to help with the flow or word order.

Hi there. I love this. I love that you have found a more earthbound way to see things. I wonder if you have ever heard of Animal Medicine Cards. Lik eTarot, but they are the animal medicines of the Native Americans. The authors are Sams and Carson, the publisher is Bear and Company. I wonder if you have a fursona deep down too. Chat me up about it if you would like to. Ryankia and Foxblade and I are all here to support our furry, scalie and feathered breathren. Happy to have you here.

It's amazing how much pagan culture and true Christianity have in common in my opinion. I have heard of the deck you're talking about but I don't have it in my collections yet. I have somewhere close to 70 decks including several of Native American themes.

As far as a fursona goes (love that term!) I am a Wolf. I do, however, have a very good relationship with Coyote as well...some of my friends my think it's TOO good (mischievious grin)

Thanks for giving my humble little chant a read!

This may be getting off topic but did you catch the viral video of Chris Judge (T'lk from Stargate) learning what a furry was?

<humble bow> I'm happy to entertain. I'm glad you liked it. And if "chantness" isn't a word,,,it should be.
