Black, faceted poking eyes,
entwine and mingle with the sweat
on each wanting palm, hoping for a sign,
something to show for their hopes.
Waiting for a life to appear, as if it would -
in a miracle, above pressed flat creases
and lines. Impressions are made
by the hollow beads, tangled in grasping,
cloying fingers, that squeeze out any chance,
lest they feel compelled to atone.

Footfalls swell a cavernous stone recess,
where amber grained, benchmarks
bare traces of lost souls that now hovers
above flickering, desperate candles, as desperate
and as lacking as the ghosts who passed by
to send a thought, a wish and a prayer.
Pouring into tin cups, bold are the empty tokens
of insincerity and salvaged consciences.
Parallels are drawn from the bitter rattles
of coffers filled to brimming, but empty
on fulfilment.

Worn are the women in black, wearing
tested shawls of threadbare woollen face
that belies their own - crackled and weather worn.
They kneel their creaking bones long since
spent, yet hungry for rejuvenating words
after hollow worship and appeasement,
but none are given, none will come.

Until a wretch like He,

Crucified, is her frame devout, on bended
knee in her hour of doubt. The dawn’s
stained glass jewels of honour, throw light
upon this dusted flower.

His elongated, pained arms of plight, reach
across broad beams of fight, and free to touch
grey, watered sight, despite His weary limbs –
bled white with tear and forgiving of the ravenous
hoards, he cups one face, tender are
His mighty thorns, their mighty thorns of fear.

On a religious spin? This one was eerie, haunting almost... like from within the depths of an old spooky church with Jesus hung and sunken faces to worship... and the grim reaper knocking at the door. I liked this a lot.

On a serious note…the imagery, I just can’t stop thinking about it. All of its sum reinforces the whole which is Splendid! The way emotions are illustrated, evoked without blatantly stating them, Fantastic! 5/5 or shall I say 666!...lol

Also, on a personal note, if more religious writings were this graphic/poetic, I might try my hand at reading the Bible again.

I don't feel qualified to critique this. The tone, the mood, so heavy and dark and wonderful. Your words...GAAAHHH! I'm speechless.
