No boat or captain's steady hand
to guide me to the promised land;
Orion beneath the horizon's back
and Polaris afraid of his own hands.

The helm adrift, my mind unwinds
in tendrils of prayer, smoky signs
for the watchman's lonely hour in the black
and one lost soul out there now swimming blind.

I didn't choose for the boat to sink!
The Captain was drunk, what a severe
misconduct of duty--the fatality of carelessness,
but
sleeplessness saved my life then.

And only mine.

Waves chopping the heart to pieces--
who knows what this end unleashes?
Only sheer willpower and life's mercies
can give harbour until the storm ceases.

But if I live through this,
what will I do
after the terror of the sea's love,
how can I ever walk on land
again

after surviving the depths of God?

Favorite lines. Orion, the Great Hunter of the Winter skies out of sight, and Polaris sounding not so reliable. Being adrift, alone in the sea, in the black waters - terrifying thought.
