Re: Dawn Breaks

I really enjoyed this one. I got a ton going on while reading, first the fight between sleep and morning... and then you hit with the heart and jaws bit and I got a bit confused... not realizing until the end where you were heading... which prompted a second read and I realized how clever it all was. Another beauty, I do miss your poetry when you go missing for a long time!!

Re: Dawn Breaks
ahh thanks .. yes it is "my" .. corrected now.
Re: long absences ... I have found my inspiration is also based on experiences, and it takes a certain kind of experience to trigger my inspiration. That means that sometimes I can have a whole patch of poetry for a week, a month, six months ... but then I go through a dry period. The longest period lasted almost 2 years once and that was really scary for me because I love writing poetry so much. The danger for me is when I begin to identify myself as a poet, as who I am. It is NOT who I am .. just something I do, and so sometimes I take a break to get things in proportion again. Even if this means that I have to withdraw from activities like online groups, even reading novels etc. Time to regroup and re-focus. To find my inspiration again. Then when I return, I have new insights, new interpretations, new things worthy of writing.

Re: Dawn Breaks
I always enjoy your stuff, Jenn (may I call you Jenn?). The images are always top notch. This one is surreal; strikes me as being sort of that "waking dream" stage where you're not sure what's real and what isn't. And I add that you should take my comments with a grain of salt because I know absolutely nothing about poetry - even though I have written some "attempted poems!"

Re: Dawn Breaks
Yes you may call me "Jenn" (lol) and also, the "waking dream" allusion is far more accurate than you might realize.
The idea is of sunbeams (so often portrayed as positive) invading my dreams while I sleep, and the only way I can continue on in my dreams is by closing the shutters/curtains/blinds whatever to block them out and let me continue. The title "Dawn Breaks" was a purposeful twist ... that the dawn shatters dreams/sleep (unless you're a semi-vampire like me who keeps the oddest hours at night!) ... which is why I say "so that my vision remains unbroken" at the very end. Very lucid dreaming sort of thing really. |
