We, the Sin of the Universe

We are hypocrites -
A bunch of mindless twits.
We hang our heads up high
To the sky for the sake of our ego.

We whine, we complain
'Till there's nothing - it's all ran away.
We shout, we yell -
We make everything a living Hell.

We destroy our earth
It was perfect - until human birth.
We have nothing left to hold
For we have wrecked the rest to fit the mold.

We over analyze,
From moon to moon - sunrise to sunrise.
We have to know all mystery,
Or else we are nothing - stuck in "misery."

Re: We, the Sin of the Universe

It's sad because it's true. Typically I would say funny, but not in this case. I don't think there's much for me to add. I could try and say something like: 'We're harnassing the earth's resources and putting them to the best use they can be used for.' Or something like that, but come on. Who would I be fooling? (Yeah, people do complain a lot.)

I think that there is a solution to many problems the world has, that doesn't mean that we're gonna solve them.

What kind of car do you own?

see, lately I stuck in the middle of the road with the war in Iraq. We are helping them, but yet, it seems we are hurting them along the way.

Re: We, the Sin of the Universe

Humanity is not a scourge - we are simply another of nature's creatures. To be defined as miserable and destructive is like me defining you by the worst I see women do around me. It's not fair to you for you are more than the culmination of the worst of your gender.

We are responsible for the world around us because we have the capability to destroy so much of it ( global warming is a farce - don't believe the hype that man created it, the earth goes through cycles like these all through its history ). Love and respect for the life around us is not a rare trait among us ' usurpers.' Energy technology is giving us cleaner and more efficient sources of power, and the fact that there are still people that will sacrifice themselves to fight tyrants and free people in countries like Iraq should show that we are more than a virus ravaging the delicate resources of this fragile planet. This planet will exist far longer than we will, regardless of what we do to it, for we are but a speck on a time line that stretches from the birth of a star to the deepest, darkest corners of space.

Have faith in us. We belong here. We are one of nature's most fascinating creations...

An ompsitimistic person? I guess you could say so!

It makes no sense to be otherwise. To debase is to release us from the standards the world insists we strive for.

I'm with Evrvglnt here. We fantasy writers have to be optimists; we have to believe in morale and good and evil.

No matter what; this planet has created us, it will have to suffer the consequences.

Re: We, the Sin of the Universe

I don't like this. I'm tired of this attitude that we should all kill ourselves or live in trees becuase we are destroying the earth. Seriously, yes their are sacrifices we make for progress and sometimes it's other creatures. I'm saying that progress has to come before some things in our world if we are really to expand off this rock and move towards the stars. If we can slow down our destruction that is fine and renewable resources make sense but dont talk about us being it being a sin to use the earth. God or Darwin created us and if they didnt want us to do something great then why didnt they make us as smart as fish. bah and humbug.

I am just saying that we are doing a lot to this earth that is destroying it - and I am not just saying physically. I mean with all the political stuff going on... it's just insanity.

Re: We, the Sin of the Universe

I have two choices for you first go do something active about or two stop whining about it. peoople are always like the worlds falling apart but what do you actually do about it. I like the world the way it is, it has problems but their are reasons why stuff is the way it is.

Makes you think. It is my opinion that this world won't last more than a couple hundred years, if that. We're destroying it, and the few people with the power won't realize it and seriously try to do something about it until it's too late.

I can't agree with this more. In fact, I can't agree with the whole POEM more. It sums up, unfortunately, man of the things we are. A sad truth. Well, it's certainly a very angry poem, it shines through. I didn't really pay attention to any of the strucure/rhythm etc, because I focused more on the content, and thought it was put dead right. Simply, but right in pretty much every way.

We need to do something about the state we're leaving the Earth in. global warming, landfills, general pollution. It all worries me, and yet there's not a lot one person can do, except hope everyone sees sense in the end.

Good work BW, some home truths here.
