With the hands of God
The cards are dealt.
Emotions prod,
A rumble felt.
As people turn and flee in fright
Peace and beauty are torn asunder.
Crimson hands enfold the night,
As human life is burned and plundered.
Pele whispered to those with ears
“Stay back, for you have harmed the land!”
But to only few, her words were clear,
“Here today, I’ll make my stand!”
Families race to beat the clock
As skies are darkened: The breath of Earth.
Others stand in pale-faced shock
And bear witness to a lava birth.
Destruction reigned and explosions felt.
Palm fronds burn in fiery stutter.
Houses burn and tires melt.
Ash falls down in faux snow flutter.
Mothers and fathers flee, kids in tow.
Others weep in prayer while kneeling.
Pele teaches to reap what they sow,
The land must be cleansed, to begin its healing.
The fires die, the world turns gray.
The town is dead, burned and abandoned.
Silence reigns for days…and days.
Pele rests, humanity is pardoned.
Ok...You all know I'm not a poet but this is sort of what called to me when I read the prompt. It's probably crap, and if it is, I hope you tell me so. Don't really know a THING about poetry, but here you have it. Thanks!

Well for someone doesnt know its all there! Bloody well done and for attempting that was beautiful and inventive/creative.
You mean...You like it? For real? Thanks, Lu! This came out surprisingly easy, though it took a little while (long story). I guess I'm going in the right direction. Thanks again!

I love this one! Sheesh it is incredible, on topic with a bit of your own flair. The images in conjured up were just, amazing! The flow as well was spot on and for someone who does not dabble in poetry much I would love to push you to try more! (Oh and sometimes the best ones just happen!!) Great work and this is going to be a tough one to beat, way to set the bar!

Thanks, Bri! Getting compliments from seasoned poets like you and Lubesh is humbling. I really have no clue about poetry, but this is all the came to mind when I read the prompt. Its like it was screaming for a poem and I'm surprised at myself that I pulled it off. Thank you very much.

Hey, I can't say that i'm a poet either but you just kicked some words with this one. I can't always say that I like poetry either but this one grabbed me from the first stanza and kept me going until the last. You got to be lying to yourself when you say you can't write a poem because this one was AWESOME!
I'm just fooling. Yeah, I know my jokes suck. Anyway, this is really good, you put yourself down just a little too hard. I clap for you on doing such a good job . It was scary to imagine, disastrous and post-apocalyptic. Shudder-ness.
